The ongoing pandemics of obesity and related metabolic syndrome have been a great public health challenge in the United States. Nearly two billion adults worldwide are estimated to be overweight (defined as having a body mass index of or greater than 25) or obese. Metabolic syndrome is a group of conditions that can lead to heart disease, diabetes, stroke and other health problems.
Our Laboratory is focused on understanding the mechanisms that cause obesity and obesity-related complications. We do obesity related Translational Research
Thus to understand the mechanism behind the development of obesity our lab is involved in studying the various aspects of the regulation and absorption of nutrients and electrolyte at the molecular, cellular, and transporter levels and apply the knowledge to bed side to improve health outcomes.
